Written plainly. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we'll explain it.
We collect what you give us and nothing more. We don't sell it, we don't track you across other websites, and there are no advertising cookies on this site. You can ask us to delete anything we hold about you and we will.
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You subscribe to the newsletter | Your email address. Nothing else. | To send you the newsletter |
| You submit a project, firm, product, photograph or tender | Your name and email, whatever you type into the form, and any files you attach | To review the submission, publish it if it fits, and write back to you about it |
| You ask to license a photograph | Your name, email and what you intend to use the image for | To check the rights, quote you a price and issue the licence |
| You buy a membership or a licence | Your name and email. Card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us | To give you what you paid for, and to keep the records tax law requires |
| Any form submission | Your IP address (the number identifying your internet connection) | Only to stop automated abuse — a limit on how many times an hour one connection can submit |
| You press “Join” or another button about membership | That a button was pressed, which one, and the date. Nothing about you — no address, no identifier, no cookie | Membership isn't built yet. Counting the presses is how we tell whether it's worth building. The rows are a tally and can't be traced to anyone |
Only the services that make the site work, and only the part each one needs:
Nobody else. We don't pass anything to advertisers or data brokers.
Under the GDPR — the European data protection law — you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable file. Write to info@buildingsid.com and we'll answer within 30 days. You don't have to give a reason.
If you think we've handled your information badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
If you submit photographs, you keep the copyright. We publish them with your credit against every image. If you opted in to licensing, we may pass your name and contact details to a buyer once you've agreed to a specific licence — never before, and never without telling you. See the licensing terms for how that works and how the fee is split.
This site is for people working in or studying the built environment. It isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.
If we change how any of this works, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we have your email, we'll tell you.
