Solstice on the Park, Chicago. Photo and architecture by Studio Gang. Building surfaces are oriented at an optimal 72-degree angle (sun angle for Chicago's latitude during the summer) such that the sun does not hit the glass directly during the warm season. This is a great way to minimize heat gain during the summer while still obtaining sun light for passive solar warming during the winter (thanks to the sun being at a lower angle), which leads to a great saving in air-conditioning use.
