As design professionals with a real passion for whole building design and development, we have always needed to stay current, to understand disciplines beyond our own well enough to coordinate them, to meet people and be seen, to know which industry events matter, and to keep finding knowledge and inspiration. Instead we found ourselves lost across scattered sources and pulled between a dozen newsletters and as many emails a week — sometimes a day. A waste of time and attention.
On top of that, with the explosive growth of social networks first and now AI, we are witnessing an even larger — and at times genuinely dangerous — volume of content that is often incorrect or misleading. Don't get us wrong: AI is a great tool. It was used to build this site and to make our own company work better. But it should never stand in for people in an industry this complex and this human.
Social media has a second failing: the thousands of fine building photographs taken by the people who work in this industry are posted once, scroll past, and can never be found again when you need them.
And a building is shaped by many hands. It runs from the people who own and build it, to the designers, to the suppliers, to the photographers and marketers, all the way to the person who finally uses it. A single discipline such as architecture or engineering spans many kinds of structure — buildings, bridges, roads — while a single kind of structure calls on many disciplines.
On that basis we built Buildings ID: an organized, easy-to-use and collaborative platform that puts the building at the center, holds a solid base of knowledge and data, and lets every party contribute — opening up collaboration and business development along the way. It is run by professionals.
Our Instagram page launched in 2017 as the first pilot for this idea. The platform itself launched in 2026, and it is only at its beginning. Our mission is for it to become the central platform for building professionals — and to protect the human expertise behind this industry.
